Prospector I & V

GIANTS UPON THE SEA

The Prospectors

PROSPECTOR  I & V arrived to lay-up due to COVID-19 work in the North sea is drying up, potential cuts relate specifically to the Prospector 1 and Prospector 5 rigs, where it has “not been successful in securing future work”. It states that approximately 230 people may be made redundent.

PROSPECTOR I is the first in the Company’s series of six high specification, harsh environment jack-up drilling rigs built in 2003 to the Friede and Goldman JU2000E design. The rig was mobilised to the UK sector of the North Sea where it is contracted to work for Total E&P UK Limited and Elf Exploration UK Limited. They can operate in 400 feet of water in all weather and can drill to a depth of 35,000 feet. Each £123m rig boasts three cranes, six engines, a helicopter landing deck and accommodation for more than 140 workers.
